About Ansu Mattia: Batik ArtistAnsu Mattia is a Sierra Leonean artist. Originally from Bonthe district in Sierra Leone’s southern province, he grew up in Freetown where he attended the Prince of Wales secondary school. Ansu specialises in batik art, and has been practising batik since the end of the Sierra Leonean civil war. He worked for several years at Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary as a resident artist - painting many murals around the sanctuary, as well as selling batik t-shirts at the sanctuary shop to tourists and visitors from around the world, including Eva Mendez. He is passionate about his work, is open to commissions and also loves to teach others how to make batik. He lives in Freetown with his daughter.
