About The Necessity Firm
We are a citizenship firm championing civic education and empowering a generation of 'whole citizens' who are active, inclusive, and objective on governance and national development matters. We are a generationally inspired organization—responding to the call for active 'whole citizenry' and for citizens to be agents of change. We believe citizens of a nation, especially young people, can be best suited, organized, and equipped to engage with our problems and our developmental aspirations. Our vision is twofold. First, imagine and work towards making Sierra Leone a nation without citizen apathy or citizens' lack of interest in civics and governance. Second, help shape and empower a generation of whole citizens who believe their roles in society are invaluable in building a functional and sustainable governance system. Whole citizens are active and objective on nation-building matters regardless of their individual, social, political, or tribal affiliations. Our work centers four pillars: promoting citizenship, character education, mentorship, and community advocacy. We offer civic education tours, fellowships, professional development training, and need-based educational stipends to student fellows selected from our school hubs. We also provide sponsorship to groups and individuals advancing social change and engaging in policy research on topical governance issues.
